Class 3: System information representation design
This class had two different types of classes. Lectures and individual work.
We had four projects one after the other. It was mainly finding "systems" to represent information.
Here are the four projects:
P #1
We had to develop a system for a topic, which needs symboles, for example olympic games.
I developed a system for instruments. Here is my outcome:
P #2
This was a short project, were we needed to make an inforgraphic only with typography about typography.
Here is my outcome:
P #3
In this project we had all freedom. We needed to find a system for something that does not have a system, about a topic which is related to yourself.
This was a greta project, because I gave myself the assignment to only use illustrator, which I am not very good in. I used a lot of tutorial, which I hated before and now I actually started to like it.
This is my outcome:
P #4
The last project was also quite free. We needed to make an "illustration", which has to do with a system and a strange idea.
I made a book about forecasting the future/ answering questions with coffeestains.

Class 2: Information representation
In this class we also had 3 different types. Mostly we had groupwork in all classes.
We had to analyse a lot of infographics and diagrams. We learned about the use of different things to represent information differently and how a tiny correction can make a big difference.
Here are some groupworks of mine:
The first one was to anaylse over 15 inforgraphics, we liked and disliked. We had to make a book or magazine out of it and anaylse, explain why it is good or bad and what can be changed.
After that we had to redesign two infographics.
At another class, but individual, we needed to make our own "annual report" inspired by Feltron.
First we needed to analyse Fetlrons work and then make our own report like his.

Since it has been a while that I didnt post and I didnt show my work from the last trimester in Barcelona, it is time now!
The last trimester in Barcelona I followed three classes. Every class has three different types of classes. Lectures, group work and individual work.
Class 1: Design Management
In this class we mostly made briefings and work plans. We learned a lot over all the calculations which need to be made and timing.
We had one assignment were we needed to find a design studio we liked and present it as if it was ours. Then we needed to make up our own in a group and have everything fixed and real as possible. We made a briefing and a work plan and calculations etc.
It was very interesting, because i have never done anything in that area. It helped me definitely.
Here are some pages of this work, which again needed to be in a pdf at the end.
In the "individual class", we had to make a planning for a convention of Shakira touring in Europ in 2012. We had to do that in pairs.
The planning was not very easy, as well as making sure that the briefing is correct and has all information which is needed. It helped me a lot to understand how such big events are planned and workout so well. Here is the final result of my planning:

maandag 28 mei 2012
Its the 28th of may and I find myself at almost the end of my Erasmus semester. Where did all the time go? where did all the good intentions for the "I will blog once a week about my erasmus" go?
The time in Barcelona run and it run even quicker than I actually imagined. It has been a wonderfull, experimental, crazy, overwhelming time. I have learned a lot and I still do. I have learned about what difference in makes, when culture is so different, when the lessons are on any time of the day- if 8:00 in the morning or at 20:00 in the afternoon, when the courses have different classes and even the teacher sometimes dont know which class is on this time. when there is groupwork and nobody does anything and it still works out with complete improvisation. when there are deadlines, which are no deadlines, when there are teachers trying very hard in spanish but always switch back to catalan in the middle of the sentence. when everyone in class uses their phones and the teacher doesnt seem to care. when there is a presentation and people walk out or come in the middle of it. when people come 1 hour late and it doesnt matter. when things that seem to matter and seem to be very important just stop in the moment one is somewhere else.
I learned that confidence is a great factor here in Catalonia/Barcelona. Confidence is one of the "big deals" here.
As I was sure not have any or at least very little, I noticed without confidence I will be lost. I tried hard and watched a lot to learn and become more confident... it was hard and it still is, as it is not the easiest to learn within a day or two. It is something one can never be finished with. You need to learn always and everyday to gain more or at least not loose what you just worked hard for. It is a up and down with the confidence, but at the end one has learned and understood how to handle it and how not to. well at least a bit. Learning is once journey through life, at least from what i understood till now. But I also learned that it is not all in life and that living is worth a lot more than just projects and school. Experiencing and stepping out of ones comfort zone is a most to go on, develop and evolve.
From this semster, well at the moment its not finished yet, I have learned more than expected, other things than I thought and much more than I could imagine. I have learned to love another city and culture and found a new/ another home. I will miss you Barcelona and all the great people I had the chance to meet. The great moments and perfect days.
I will visit again for sure and study/learn your language more and frequently.
Thanks to this great opportunity and thanks to all who made it possible to have a great and awesome time.
Friederike/Fred/Fritzi/Freddy etc. :) (hard name to pronounce)
ps: pictures and displays of my projects will follow up.
